Marmot Union Cataloging Committee
Wednesday, June 25, 2025
Agenda

Announcements

  • Backstage project is proceeding
    • We will run MLN1 first
    • MLN2 will wait until after Clearview is on board to save money
    • We received sample data back for both servers
    • The team is looking through the data for problems
  • Order records at Boulder and Mesa

 Discussion Topics

  • Clearview migration to MLN2
  • MLN1 and MLN2 subcommittees?
  • Bootleg DVDs
  • Suggested procedure
    • Let Marmot/Lloyd know about the suspected bootleg
    • All holds will remain as is on the bib until there is validation of a legitimate release or something is done to change the status so the bootleg doesn't appear in Pika anymore. Libraries can remove holds for their patrons if desired while investigation is occurring.
    • Lloyd works with the libraries who own the copies.
    • If the copies are valid, share with UCC where the official copies can be purchased and/or information from the publisher indicating there was an official release in the specific format owned (DVD, Blu-Ray, 4k).
    • If the copies are not valid or if information from the publisher cannot be found
      • Remove the copies from circulation.
      • If the library wants to keep them anyway - suppress the items from Pika. This would either have to be through:
        • changing the itype to an itype that is non-lendable outside of the owning library
        • Suppressing the bib so it doesn't show in any catalog and only lives on the shelves in the owning library's location
      • A different option I haven't thought about.
    • Once the copy is removed or the bib is suppressed from Pika, notify all libraries through the UCC email.
    • Libraries can then cancel holds and inform patrons of the canceled holds.
